Rhinoplasty Risks
Whether you undergo a medically necessary surgery or an elective surgery, there is going to be some degree of risk. This is natural and patients need to have realistic expectations and a realistic understanding about the risks associated with any surgery. When you visit with Austin and San Antonio plastic surgeon Dr. Constance Barone, she will be sure to explain all of the risks and benefits associated with a given surgery. During the consultation process, all of her patients are encouraged to ask questions and give voice to their many concerns. Dr. Barone understands what a big decision this is.
One surgery that has a number of common surgical risks and avoidable post-operative risks is rhinoplasty. When getting a nose job, its important to follow all of our instructions for post-operative care to ensure that you do not experience any adverse side effects. Lets take a moment right now to look at the risks associated with rhinoplasty.
Some common risks associated with San Antonio rhinoplasty are the same that are linked to other sorts of surgery. These risks include the possibility of infection, allergic reactions to anesthetic, poor healing time, bleeding, and other complications. Generally these can all be prevented in the pre-operative prep period. Dr. Barone will ensure any allergies are taken into account and that you are in generally good health going into surgery to prevent complications occurring afterward.
Some unique risks associated with rhinoplasty involve the shape of the nose becoming deformed after surgery, possible respiratory changes, and excessive nosebleeds. These can all be avoided through proper post-operative care on your part. Be sure not to engage in any sorts of contact sport or strenuous activities for a few weeks after surgery since these can lead to nose injuries. Blowing your nose should be avoided for a few months since this can have an affect on the shape and condition of your nose. Also be wary of resting your glasses on your nose if you wear glasses. It may be a good idea to switch to contact until the healing period is completed.
There are many other concerns associated with rhinoplasty that you should keep in mind, though these we can discuss later during the consultation process. To schedule an appointment at our practice, contact our San Antonio and Austin plastic surgery centers today.
