How Sculptra® Aesthetic is Different

Sculptra® Aesthetic smooths lines and wrinkles that develop on the corners of your mouth and extend to the sides of your nostrils. Also known as nasolabial folds, these wrinkles develop as collagen in your skin breaks down over time. It can also be used on marionette lines (which extend from the corners of the mouth to the chin) and on wrinkles that develop on the chin itself.

Collagen is connective tissue that lies within the dermis of your skin, providing a kind of scaffolding or structure to support the skin. Sculptra® Aesthetic differs from traditional dermal fillers (such as JUVÉDERM®) which fill in wrinkles immediately with hyaluronic acid or animal-based collagen. Sculptra® Aesthetic is a collagen stimulator that causes your skin to create collagen, which renews structure in the dermis and softens wrinkles b increasing skin volume.

Many of our patients enjoy Sculptra® Aesthetic because its effect is not instantaneous and does not create a dramatically different look that feels overdone or obvious. Rather, patients see beautiful results emerge over a period of months as their skin begins to create its own new collagen.

Your Visit With Us

Before you receive an injectable, you will consult with Dr. Barone. She will speak with you about your cosmetic goals, concerns, and expectations. Injectables like Sculptra® Aesthetic are more affordable treatments than surgical wrinkle treatments like facelift surgery. 

After you and Dr. Barone have discussed Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment, she will examine your nasolabial folds and other wrinkles on the lower half of your face to plan your treatment. Dr. Barone injects Sculptra® Aesthetic deep within the dermis layer of your skin using a thin needle. Because it does not contain bacterial components, no allergy test is required prior to treatment.

While you may notice subtle results after your initial treatment, the full effect of Sculptra® Aesthetic will take a few weeks and more than one treatment to develop. Possible side effects of Sculptra® Aesthetic injections include mild swelling, bruising, and soreness at the injection site. These side effects usually resolve on their own within 36 hours. You may apply an ice pack to the site of injection to reduce swelling and bruising.
